Warning: spoilers for Daredevil: Gang War #4!After just four years under the hood, Elektra solidifies herself as the best Daredevil and New York’s best superhero. Matt Murdock’s longtime lover became Hell’s Kitchen’s new Daredevil after the original, Matt Murdock, was sent to prison. Once he was out, she continued to maintain operations as the second Daredevil by Matt’s side, a role she remains in today.

Elektra is still relatively new to the role, but manages to clean up New York City almost singlehandedly in Daredevil: Gang War #4. At the conclusion of the “Gang War” storyline, New York’s criminal syndicates are in disarray, leading to small turf wars and chaos across the city. Elektra and Spider-Man work to take down the stragglers of their major victory over the city’s gangs, and Spider-Man gives Daredevil props for the work she’s done. While Elektra thanks Miles Morales for his help, he believesshe could have cleaned up NYC by herself – an assessment that she agrees with.

Elektra is something of a reversal of the usual newbie superhero. Her years as a ninja assassin mean she’s one of the most skilled fighters on Earth, having trained since she was a teenager to effectively infiltrate, destroy, or otherwise undermine criminal organizations. In fact, Elektra’s one big weakness as a hero is that she’s so used to lethal tactics, it took her a while to adjust her fighting style to never again taking a life (Matt’s condition for allowing her to use the Daredevil persona.)

Elektra Cleans Up New York as Daredevil

Elektra Has Been a One-Woman Army Throughout Gang War

Elektra Daredevil and Spider-Man Miles Morales watch over Hell's Kitchen

As Gang War broke out across New York, beginning a war for territory involving every notable Marvel gangster, Peter Parker’s Spider-Man gathered a team of New York City’s best street-level heroes to combat the opposition. Elektra was among these heroes, joining a group including Miles Morales, She-Hulk, and Spider-Woman.

The team worked together well, but readers will note that in Elektra’s own series, the new Daredevil has done an overwhelming amount of damage to Gang War’s villains by herself. She’s essentially been the team’s secret weapon, with Miles’ response here totally justified by everything she’s accomplished.

For now at least, Elektra is the street-level Daredevil that New York needs.

Fans will likely never be done arguing whether Matt Murdock or Elektra is the better Daredevil. However, it certainly seems that Elektra is the more effective protector of New York. It’s rare (if ever) that readers have seen a Daredevil dispose of criminals as quickly or efficiently as Elektra did during the 48 hours of Gang War. If nothing else, Elektra certainly has to be the street-level Daredevil that New York needs while Matt Murdock is away acting as an exorcist for the demons he accidentally brought back from Hell. For now at least, Elektra is the street-level Daredevil that New York needs.
