Both DC and Marvel have now introduced dinosaur versions of their premier teams in the Jurassic League and Dinosaur Avengers. The Justice League’s species-swapped equivalent focuses on a new world where heroes like Superman and Wonder Woman live as a brachiosaurus and a triceratops in a prehistoric time. Marvel’s dinosaur take on the Avengers sees Earth’s Mightiest Heroes of separate modern-day universe that’s identical to the 616, only inhabited by and fitted for dinosaurs.

Various comic book characters are often pitted against each other to hypothetically determine who would win in a fight or is most powerful. The Avengers vs. the Justice League is a common match-up. This is also something that’s a topic of contention when it comes to various species of dinosaurs.

Now that both of these dinosaur teams have been introduced, the natural question is: which team of prehistoric beasts is the most powerful? When taking a look at the stories these teams originated in, one publisher’s group of dinosauria has clearly established more capability and prowess than the other.

DC’s Jurassic League turns the company’s mightiest heroes into vicious dinosaurs, but Marvel does them one better with the Amazing Spider-Rex.

The Jurassic League Has Had More Chances To Prove Themselves

The Jurassic League has had more opportunities to prove themselves as the most powerful team of dino-heroes. DC’s dinosaurs debuted in The Jurassic League (2022) by Juan Gedeon, Daniel Warren Johnson, and Mike Spicer. The team is made up of six core hero counterparts of the regular Justice League: Bat Walker/Batsaur, Supersaur, Wonderdon, Flashraptor, Green Torch, and Aquanyx. The series begins in a universe where most of these heroes are unfamiliar with each other and must come together over six issues to form the Jurassic League and take down Darkyloseid and other dinosaur versions of their classic villains.

While the Jurassic League had six issues of their series, Marvel’s reptilian team have only appeared in two issues of the current Fantastic Four run. In Fantastic Four (2022)#12 by Ryan North, Iban Coello, and Jesus Aburtov, Marvel’s First Family are suddenly transported to an alternate dino-centric universe with an all-new team of Dinosaur Avengers. They are captured by and spar with dino versions of Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange due to a misunderstanding. Once resolved, the human Fantastic Four work with them to get everyone back to their home universes safely.

Though both teams made a splash in their comic debuts, DC’s prehistoric heroes have had much more room to take shape as a full-fledged team.

In these introductions to the characters, the Jurassic League shows far more power than the Dinosaur Avengers are able to. The prehistoric League fights dino-fied versions of villains like Joker, Giganta, Black Manta, and more in their series, eventually defeating that universe’s Darkseid in The Jurassic League #6 by Juan Gedeon and Daniel Warren Johnson. The Dinosaur Avengers, however, are only briefly shown in one strained battle against the Fantastic Four that ends in a draw. With this brief and underwhelming example of their abilities, the Dinosaur Avengers aren’t portrayed to be as effective in a fight as DC’s dinosaur team.

Though both teams made a splash in their comic debuts, DC’s prehistoric heroes have had much more room to take shape as a full-fledged team. Having their own limited series, they were given greater opportunities to shine and show their power than the Dinosaur Avengers did with their brief stint in Fantastic Four. Along with rumors swirling of an animated film adaptation, the Jurassic League will surely return to the pages of DC Comics before Marvel brings back its dino team. While the Avengers have untapped potential, the Jurassic League remains the most powerful dinosaur team in mainstream comics.
