Netflix’s Damsel is turning standard fantasy tropes on their heads, and the cast of the film is impressive enough to draw attention from subscribers — assuming the compelling plot and dragon aren’t enough on their own. Damsel debuts on the streaming platform on March 8, 2024, and it will see Millie Bobby Brown taking on her next big role. After leading both Stranger Things and Netflix’s Enola Holmes franchise, Damsel marks an exciting turn of events for the actor. Brown will step into an all-new genre, pushing back against the more traditional roles of women in fantasy.

Damsel tells the tale of Brown’s character, Elodie, as she’s forced to marry the prince of a foreign kingdom for the sake of her own people. As the trailer for Damsel reveals, the wedding doesn’t go anything like she expected. Rather than ruling a kingdom, Princess Elodie soon finds herself facing down a dragon and fighting for her survival. This gripping narrative is made even better by Brown’s acting skills. And she’s not the only one in the Damsel cast who shines.

Robin Wright As Queen Isabelle

The queen from Netflix's Damsel

Actor: Robin Wright, 57, was born in Dallas, Texas in 1966. Wright’s breakout movie role was in The Princess Bride, where she portrayed Princess Buttercup — and her Damsel character is a clever reversal of her part in the beloved fantasy movie. Character: Wright’s character, Queen Isabelle, is the main villain of Damsel. Although her entire kingdom is behind the plot to sacrifice innocent young women to the dragon lurking below, Queen Isabelle is the most accepting of the plan— and the most willing to see it enacted at all costs. Queen Isabelle has an air of cruelty that her son simply doesn’t possess, even if he’s complicit in her schemes. Wright plays the villain to perfection, making it clear from the beginning that she’s not one to be trifled with.

Ray Winstone As Lord Bayford

Actor: Ray Winstone, 67, was born in London, England in 1957. Winstone’s breakout film role was in Sexy Beast, which found him tackling the lead role of Gal. Winstone has also lent his voice to films like Rango and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. With a variety of films and shows under his belt, the actor is more than equipped to handle Damsel. Character: Winstone’s character, Lord Bayford, is the father of Princess Elodie and partially responsible for her plight. With the threat of his people dying of starvation, Lord Bayford arranges Elodie’s marriage to Prince Henry in the hopes that the dowry will keep his kingdom alive. He doesn’t realize what the prince and his mother are up to, but Lord Bayford doesn’t exactly take his daughter’s wishes into account either. He’s not an immediately likable character, but he may grow on viewers as the film continues.

Nick Robinson As Prince Henry

Nick Robinson as Prince Henry in Netflix's Damsel

Actor: Nick Robinson, 28, was born in Seattle, Washington in 1995. The actor’s breakout role was in the 2013 film The Kings of Summer, which garnered significant critical acclaim. However, the actor’s true rise to fame happened during 2015’s Jurassic World, which saw him playing Zach, the older of the two brothers in the movie. Robinson is also known for playing Simon in the LGBTQ+ romance Love, Simon, a role he reprised for Hulu’s spinoff series, Love, Victor. Robinson’s part in Damsel is a far cry from Simon Spier, but he plays it well, embodying the charm and deceit his character is capable of.

Notable Movies & TV Shows:The Kings of Summer (2013); Jurassic World (2015); Melissa & Joey (2010-2015); Being Charlie (2015); The 5th Wave (2016); Everything, Everything (2017); Krystal (2017); Love, Simon (2018); Native Son (2019); Strange But True (2019); Shadow in the Cloud (2020); A Teacher (2020); Silk Road (2021); Love, Victor (2020-2021); Maid (2021); History of the World: Part II (2023); Snack Shack (2024).

Character: Robinson plays Prince Henry in Damsel, Elodie’s betrothed. Prince Henry initially seems like a kind and charming figure, but he proves his true colors when he sacrifices Elodie to the dragon. To his credit, he actually seems remorseful for his actions, unlike the queen. Still, Robinson’s character is very much a villain, and the role allows him to showcase his acting skills in a new way.

Damsel Supporting Cast & Characters

Shohreh Aghdashloo: Shohreh Aghdashloo voices the dragon in Damsel, the very threat Princess Elodie must contend with following the unexpected turn of events at her wedding ceremony. Aghdashloo has a background in the science-fiction genre, with prominent roles in Star Trek Beyond and The Expanse. She’s also lent her voice to other prominent projects, including Arcane, Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, Archer, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Brooke Carter as Floria: Brooke Carter joins the cast of Damsel as Floria, Elodie’s sweet but naive little sister. While Elodie is hesitant to move to a new kingdom and wed a stranger, Floria is thrilled by the prospect of joining their families. Carter has only been acting professionally since 2020, so she has a handful of credits under her belt. These include The Alienist, The Irregulars, and The Peripheral. Damsel marks her first movie role.

Milo Twomey as King Roderick: Milo Twomey takes on the role of King Roderick in Damsel, the husband of Queen Isabelle and the true decision-maker when it comes to the dragon sacrifices.
