Allen the Alien has finally returned in Invincible season 2, part 2, and here’s what the character being back means as well as the episode’s wild Viltrumite twist, explained. Invincible is a show mostly centered on the titular character and his superheroics on Earth, with Mark Grayson fighting alongside the Guardians of the Globe to protect the world from threats like Angstrom Levy, the Sequids, and Omni-Man. However, a much larger story is going on in the background of Invincible season 2, and Allen the Alien’s return is one of the biggest parts of it.

Invincible season 2, part 2 is finally here, with Amazon Prime Video now releasing the highly anticipated continuation of their critically claimed animated adaptation of the superhero comic of the same name. Invincible season 2, part 2 picks up right where Invincible season 2, part 1 ended, with Mark returning to Earth alongside Oliver while the Guardians of the Globe are preparing for the Sequid invasion. Although these are the main two storylines of season 2, episode 5, Allen the Alien also has a major role in the episode, setting up some big changes for the future of Invincible.

Allen’s Survival (& Upgrade) In Invincible Season 2 Explained

Allen the Alien is an agent of Invincible‘s Coalition of Planets, a galactic federation of like-minded alien planets that is currently tasked with stopping the threat of the Viltrumites from spreading to other worlds. After having traveled to Earth in season 1, Allen headed back to the Coalition’s homeworld, with him reporting news of a rebel Viltrumite on Earth to the Coalition’s leader Thaedus. However, a group of Viltrumites eventually show up, having learned of the news from a mole. They beat Allen to the brink of death, with season 2, part 1 leaving Allen’s fate up in the air.

Allen the Alien is back in Invincible season 2, part 2, with the mid-credits scene from episode 5 revealing his return. As was seen in the first half of the season, Allen the Alien was being kept in a metal pod owned by the Coalition of Planets, although this pod’s purpose was not yet known. The scene reveals that the pod aided in healing Allen, with him awakening as a much stronger version of himself than he was before.

Invincible Season 3: Cast, Story, & Everything We Know

The Amazon Prime Video series Invincible shined during its first two seasons, and here’s everything we know about the upcoming season 3.

Allen the Alien was already incredibly strong for a Unopan, and the Coalition of Planets’ upgrades have only made him more powerful. At this point in the Invincible comics, Allen the Alien is essentially as strong as a Viltrumite, meaning that he could possibly even beat one in combat. Although the full extent of Allen’s new strength hasn’t been shown yet, it is likely to be a game changer in the fight against the Viltrumites, making the new and improved Allen the Alien one of the Coalition of Planets’ most valuable assets.

Thaedus Wasn’t An Invincible Villain After All

Thaedus is a character from the Invincible comics, and upon his debut in season 2, part 1, there was a lot of speculation around some changes that were made to the character. Thaedus was acting a lot shadier than his comic book counterpart, with him even fiddling with Allen’s healing pod in what seemed like an attempt to kill him. This led to some fans believing that Thaedus was a villain in Invincible season 2, part 1, something that would have been built on here if this were true. As it turns out, though, Thaedus wasn’t an Invincible villain after all.

Similarly to the comics, Invincible season 2, episode 5 has Thaedus pull off his beard, with him revealing that he is secretly a Viltrumite to Allen. As it turns out, Thaedus was the first Viltrumite to rebel against the Viltrum Empire, with him never being able to find another anti-Viltrum member of his species. Due to him not being able to take down the Viltrum Empire on his own, Thaedus founded the Coalition of Planets, hoping that a galactic united front would be able to take on his colonizing homeworld. However, Invincible season 2 presents Thaedus with a new option.

Why Thaedus Needs Mark Grayson (& How It Sets Up Invincible Season 3)

Mark Grayson flying through space in Invincible.

Due to Allen reporting his findings on Earth, Thaedus now knows about Mark Grayson — and he desperately needs him. Mark Grayson is the only other Viltrumite that has rebelled against the Viltrum empire (to Thaedus’ knowledge), meaning that it is essential for the Coalition of Planets to recruit Invincible. While Thaedus couldn’t take on the Viltrum Empire alone, having Mark on his team could be a game changer, giving the federation two Viltrumites as well as an equally matched Unopan. Mark could be the key to taking down the Viltrum Empire, and Thaedus knows this.

According to Thaedus’ story in the Invincible comics, he is clearly going to try and recruit Invincible in season 3, with him sending Allen to Earth to recruit Mark. Thaedus becomes aware of Omni-Man’s betrayal of the Viltrum Empire while trying to hunt down Mark, giving him another valuable asset. Through this relationship, Thaedus is able to learn a lot about the state of the Viltrumites, including some of their weaknesses. Thaedus then begins to prepare the Coalition of Planets for war, with Invincible eventually making his way to the planet Talescria.

What Next For Allen The Alien In Invincible?

Invincible Season 2 Teaser Mark Grayson Allen the Alien

Allen the Alien will be making some big moves in the latter half of season 2 and in season 3. In the comics, Thaedus sends Allen the Alien to find Mark after he awakens. On the way to Earth, however, Allen is imprisoned by the Viltrum Empire, landing him in jail. While there, Allen meets Omni-Man, with the two become fast friends. Allen the Alien and Omni-Man then team up and break out of the Viltrumite jail, with Allen and Nolan returning to the Coalition of Planets.

Upon their arrival, Thaedus and Nolan realize that they aren’t the only Viltrumite rebels, with Nolan joining the war against the Viltrum Empire. Thaedus is informed that Omni-Man’s books contain the weaknesses of Viltrumites, with Thaedus then sending Allen and Nolan to round up the various weapons that can be used against the upcoming war. Allen the Alien plays a massive role in getting the war against the Viltrum Empire started, and it is all because of Invincible season 2, episode 5’s mid-credits scene.
