Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney hints that filming for season 3 might be starting soon. The HBO teen drama focuses on the lives of various high school students in the fictional town of East Highlands, California as they seek to navigate the numerous troubles of adolescence. While Euphoria has been renewed for season 3 by HBO, the production has faced numerous delays, which has caused a huge gap between seasons.

In a recent MTV interview with Josh Horowitz to discuss the upcoming horror Immaculate, Sweeney, who plays Cassie in Euphoria, revealed that filming for season 3 might be starting soon. Check out the video below:

Sweeney stated that she would “go into Euphoria after being asked about a potential break from acting. While keeping the details secretive, the actor added that the show felt like home for her and expressed her excitement about returning.

Why Has Euphoria Season 3 Taken So Long To Make?

Season 3 may not premiere until 2025.

While the Hollywood dual strikes in 2023 played a part in the show’s delayed production, the actors’ busy schedules have also paused any season 3 progression.

Season 3 has been plagued with several delays, with it now being two years since season 2 ended. However, this long hiatus is not a huge surprise since the gap between seasons 1 and 2 was three years. Still, while the show remains one of HBO’s most popular shows, several factors have caused its delay and put in question whether season 3 will come anytime soon. The biggest concern would be the cast’s age, as most would be around their mid-20s playing teenage characters. Based on past cast and creative team comments, the show may not return until 2025.

While the Hollywood dual strikes in 2023 played a part in the show’s delayed production, the actors’ busy schedules have also paused any season 3 progression. Since Euphoria season 2 ended in 2022, actors Jacob Elordi (Nate), Sweeney, Zendaya (Rue), and Hunter Schafer (Jules) have all had major projects in movies such as Saltburn, Dune 2, Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds and Snakes, and Anyone But You. They each have become the hottest in-demand young actors in Hollywood, which further raises concerns about matching everyone’s schedules.

1 Upcoming HBO Show Makes Euphoria Season 3’s Long Wait Even More Dangerous

Euphoria season 3 is already suffering from an overly long hiatus between seasons, but this new HBO series could make Euphoria’s problems even worse.

Costar Colman Domingo (Ali Muhammed) recently explained that part of the season 3 setback is that Euphoria creator, writer, and director Sam Levinson has been rewriting the show to see the most important stories. The show is also facing the loss of one essential cast member, Angus Cloud, who died last summer from a drug overdose. While details are sparse about season 3, it has been hinted that there could be a time jump, which could accommodate the age issue with the delays. With Sweeney’s update, it seems that the season 3 target date for 2025 may finally come to fruition.
