Euphoria star Nika King comments on the season 3 delay in a new standup routine. King plays Leslie Bennett, mother to Rue and Gia Bennett, in the popular HBO series. Euphoria’s cast also features Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow, Storm Reid, Alexa Demie, Sydney Sweeney, and the late Angus Cloud.

In a clip revealed by @iamnikaking on TikTok, King speaks on Euphoria season 3’s delay. In a standup routine, King said that she has not booked a gig since Euphoria, despite thinking that the show would be a catalyst in moving her career forward.

She also reacted to Zendaya attending Paris Fashion Week, joking that the actress needs to “come home” so that King and the other actors can get started for work on Euphoria. Though this was in the context of a set, King said that she was being “for real.”

Euphoria’s Season 3 Delay Explained

While the nature of these quotes being from a standup routine makes King’s level of seriousness hard to read, there are certainly threads of truth in this statement. Despite being well-regarded in her role as Leslie Bennett, King indeed has not had any acting roles since starting on Euphoria. Many of her co-stars, including Elordi, Sweeney, and Schafer, have been able to use Euphoria as a springboard to fame, but unfortunately King has not been so lucky.

What’s also true in this statement is that Euphoria has been subject to massive delays. Season 2 was released back in 2022, already representing a three-year gap after its debut season. Since then, Euphoria season 3 has faced a number of obstacles, including the Hollywood strikes in 2023, the growingly busy schedules of many of its leads, and the deaths of cast member Cloud and producer Kevin Turen.

The Euphoria season 2 finale sees Jules come to terms with much of her recent trauma, yet she still chooses to walk away from Jules at the play.

Recently, it was revealed that Euphoria creator, writer, and director Sam Levinson was rewriting season 3. For some, including actor Colman Domingo, this was a good sign that Euphoria season 3 would work hard to maintain the integrity of the series, as they had to reshape it without Turen’s influence as well as the character of Fezco. Hopefully, these rewrites will be finished swiftly and King and the other Euphoria cast members can get back to work soon.
