The footage for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire confirms one character from the last film will get their one wish, but it could end up having tragic implications considering what threats exist. Much of the cast of the last movie, plus a few new faces, will reprise their roles in this fifth film of the Ghostbusters franchise, and the first in three years. Many stories were left open-ended at the ending of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and this new film seems poised to have those come into play in the new story.

Shot to be a direct sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the new movie in the popular Ghostbusters franchise will seemingly follow the Spengler family from Oklahoma to New York City to battle an intimidating and deadly frozen ghost known as Garraka. In addition to the return of every other ghost that has been busted in previous films, the cast of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire includes the remaining original Ghostbusters appear to play a major role in the movie.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
will be released in theaters on March 22, 2024.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Will See Lucky Leave Summerville At Last

In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, as Lucky Domingo (Celeste O’Connor) is getting to know Trevor Spengler (Finn Wolfhard) after they move to town, she mentions to him that she is a fourth-generation Summerville native (“a fourth-generation dump”), which is why she has never left, even though she wants to. Lucky indicated that she wants to get out but is unable to because her father is the sheriff and all she knows is in that town. Trevor is from Chicago and represents something Lucky has never had; adventure. It appears the sequel will give her that chance.

Based on the footage from the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire trailers, Lucky does, in fact, go to New York with the Spenger family and Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd). The reasons why she leaves Summerville, Oklahoma are unclear at this point, but whatever causes her to leave, she is right in the middle of the ghost-battling action in the new film. Even though Lucky might have gotten her wish, it might not end up how she wanted.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’s Trailers Have Teased Lucky’s Death

Lucky at work in Ghostbusters Afterlife

In the most recent trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Lucky Domingo dons a uniform and a proton pack, and is clearly seen fighting the frozen ghosts in some capacity. In one scene in particular, some kind of frozen chill is making its way towards Lucky. The next thing shown in the trailer is a closeup of Lucky’s face and eyes quickly freezing because of the Death Chill that Garraka introduced to her.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife
is currently available to stream on Fubo and DirecTV.

In addition to now being a Ghostbuster, Lucky was a valuable source of information in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. She was the one who knew the history of Summerville and that Ivo Shandor built everything in the town, allowing them to make the connection that he was the one who designed and built the New York City apartment building Gozer infiltrated in the original Ghostbusters. If the trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire does foreshadow Lucky’s death, it would be a sad and ironic end for someone with that name who only wanted to escape the town she lived in her whole life.
