Kong Becomes DC’s Latest Green Lantern in Epic Preview Art

Things are about to get a lot more interesting when Kong becomes the DC Universe’s next Green Lantern. After several stunning issues, Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong is building towards its epic conclusion and DC Comics is giving fans a preview of the extraordinary events to come in the final issue.

In a post on DC Comics’ Instagram account, the publisher posted an image to tease Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #7. The post teased what lies ahead by saying “the power ring has set its sights on a new Lantern in the series finale” and posted an image of Kong with a Green Lantern Power Ring.

The image is series artist Christian Duce’s cover for the final issue of the crossover miniseries. Duce’s Kong is shown enveloped in a field of emerald light as the symbol for the Green Lantern Corps hovers over the mighty Titan’s chest.

Kong is Going to Become a Green Lantern in Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong’s Finale

The DC Universe and the MonsterVerse came together when the small-time bad guy Toyman pilfered the Dreamstone from the Fortress of Solitude. He discovered the MonsterVerse’s Titans and brought them to the DCU to help destroy the Justice League once and for all. Toyman’s plans were somewhat successful as the gigantic monsters tore through several iconic locations like Themyscira and Central City. The League had to pull out all the stops to do some damage to the invading monsters, but even they couldn’t save Superman when he crossed paths with Godzilla, a fight that left the hero in critical condition.

It might be odd to see one of the MonsterVerse’s Titans wielding arguably the most powerful weapon in the DC Universe. But the Green Lantern Corps is composed of thousands of unusual beings, so a gargantuan ape isn’t that odd in the grand scheme of things. It honestly fits because Green Lantern Power Rings seek out beings that possess high levels of willpower, something the MonsterVerse’s take on Kong definitely has. While it remains to be seen if the kaiju has the ability to imagine up constructs, this upgrade is certainly going to help Kong and the Justice League achieve victory.

Green Lantern Kong Could Be Unstoppable

Kong is a force of nature that has taken down the MonsterVerse’s worst threats. Alone, he’s a pretty intimidating being. But throw in the mighty power of a Green Lantern ring, and there’s no telling what he can do. Even if Kong can’t generate constructs, he can still use the ring’s base functions such as as flight which will aid his strength. While readers are going to have to wait a bit longer to see DC’s latest Green Lantern in action, the image of Kong with a Power Ring is one that’s no doubt going to generate excitement among fans.
