With the immense success that The Bear has seen in the 2023/2024 awards season, it seems incredibly likely that more seasons of the hit Hulu show, beyond the upcoming third season, are on the horizon. The Bear had an impressive winning streak at the 2024 Golden Globes and the 2023 Primetime Emmy Awards, but the show’s accolades did not stop there. The Hulu favorite recently faced off against shows like Abbott Elementary and Ted Lasso at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards in three categories.

Since its first season debut in 2022, The Bear has become one of the most popular original series on Hulu. The success of this show is vital for Hulu if they want to compete with the other huge streaming services. With so many cast members of The Bear now toting numerous awards for their performances, the series has become a huge draw for the platform. After the award season sweep the show had, Hulu would be wise to renew the series for a fourth season.

Hulu’s culinary drama series The Bear has enjoyed two successful seasons so far, and here’s what we know about the upcoming season 3.

The Bear Is Proving One Of Hulu’s Best Shows With Its 2023 Awards Season

The Bear saw success throughout the entire 2023/2024 awards season, but it was most victorious at the Emmy Awards. Delayed from September 2023 to January 2024 due to the writers’ and actors’ strike, the Emmys honored season 1 of The Bear. The series took home 10 wins (4 Creative Arts Emmys, 6 Primetime), beating out fan favorites like Ted Lasso and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for Outstanding Comedy Series. It is a huge testament to the show’s success that it is still winning awards for its first season over a year after its premiere.

Across the Golden Globes, the Emmys, and the SAG awards, The Bear earned numerous acting awards. At the Emmys alone, Ayo Edebiri won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy for her role as Sydney, Ebon Moss-Bachrach won Best Supporting Actor for his role as Richie, and Jeremy Allen White accepted Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as series lead Carmy Berzatto. To have such an awarded cast in their series is huge for Hulu, especially as the actors branch out and find more success in outside projects.

The Bear Season 4 Seems Inevitable Given The Show’s Accolades

Hulu has already been quick to order renewals for The Bear. The second season was announced only one month after the first season’s premiere in 2022. That was before The Bear started to reel in awards. Now, with two critically acclaimed seasons out and a third on the way, a fourth season is bound to be announced in haste. The series has gone from being a surprise success to one of the most talked about and anticipated shows on a streaming service.

The Bear
has not been renewed for season 4 yet.

As the cast of The Bear continues to grow in popularity, the series will become a bigger draw for the streaming service. The casting of Ebon Moss-Bachrach in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four revival was just announced and while that is great news for Moss-Bachrach, it could also benefit The Bear as well. As more people discover the cast in other projects, the chances that viewership of The Bear increases are likely. With all of this attention, it is doubtful Hulu will let go of The Bear any time soon.

The Hulu Show Has Enough Material To Justify Season 4

Richie looking at Carmy with concern in The Bear

If Hulu does renew The Bear for a fourth season, there will be no lack of material for the writers to explore. Season 2 dove further into Carmy’s family and opened the door to explore more of the familial trauma. There’s a lot that can be done with Jamie Lee Curtis’s memorable role as Donna Berzatto, Carmy’s mother, especially after her emotional scene in The Bear‘s season 2 finale. The public reception of the restaurant launch can easily span across several more seasons, especially considering how tumultuous the opening night was for Carmy.

As proven by their win for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series at the 2024 SAG Awards,
The Bear
has a talented cast of amazing characters that can have their backstories expanded on for many seasons to come.

One of the most stressful episodes of The Bear, “Fishes”, opened the door for future plot lines regarding Richie. The flashback episode featured the first appearance of his then-wife Tiffany Jerimovich (Gillian Jacobs) when they were still happily together and expecting. After the inspiring character arc Richie had in season 2, his relationship with his ex-wife and daughter can hopefully improve in future seasons. The Bear is justifiable in deviating from the main story to spotlight different characters and will have plenty of material for a fourth season if they do so.

With rival streaming services like Netflix and Max offering so many acclaimed series, Hulu needs to cherish the shows that attract new viewers. After such an incredible 2023/2024 award season turnout for The Bear, the show will likely have a bright future beyond the upcoming third season. As proven by their win for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series at the 2024 SAG Awards, The Bear has a talented cast of amazing characters that can have their backstories expanded on for many seasons to come.

The Bear
season 3 premieres June 2024, on Hulu and Disney+.
