Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen show is set in the same universe as the original 2019 movie but revolves around a new set of characters played by talented cast members. Although Netflix’s The Gentlemen shares narrative and thematic similarities with its parent film, it follows a standalone narrative that spans eight episodes. Like every Guy Ritchie movie, The Gentlemen has everything from snappy dialogue to intentionally convoluted storytelling, from quick match cuts to rich character beats.

While the series is relatively low on action compared to the director’s other works, it makes up for it with its intriguing political undertones. Owing to this shift in its storytelling, Netflix’s The Gentlemen is arguably more character-driven than many of Ritchie’s previous films. Since the show’s characters and the actors who play them are instrumental in effectively selling its crime drama, it is hard not to wonder which actor/actress plays whom in the series’ overarching narrative.
