One character rumored to appear in The Witcher season 4 will set up Ciri’s best storyline to date, which can make up for the show’s past mistakes. Despite being one of Netflix’s biggest and most popular TV shows, The Witcher has also been one of the most controversial titles on the platform in recent years. Netflix’s The Witcher is based on the book series of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, but the show has taken too many creative liberties that have angered fans of the books and video games.

The Witcher season 2 was a particularly controversial one, as the writers changed Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and turned her into an antagonist-borderline-villain, while in the books, she developed a strong bond with Ciri (Freya Allan). The Witcher season 3 made up for those Yennefer mistakes and more and was a lot more faithful to the source material, which fans hope will continue to be the case in season 4 – and if one rumored character is introduced, The Witcher season 4 can make Ciri’s story so good, all past mistakes will be forgiven.

The Witcher Season 4 Introducing Nimue Sets Up Ciri’s Time-Travel Storyline

Nimue was key in Ciri’s return to her time.

Nimue is a sorceress who was inspired by the tales of Yennefer and Ciri to become one.

According to Redanian Intelligence, The Witcher season 4 might be introducing Nimue, who made her first appearance in the novel Baptism of Fire, the book season 4 is supposed to be based on. Nimue verch Wledyr ap Gwyn is a sorceress who grew up in the small village of Vyrva. When she was a child, she and her sister, Orla, would gather with other village children to hear the stories of Stribog, a traveling storyteller. Stribog told them the legends of Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer, and Ciri, with the latter two inspiring Nimue to become a mage (or, if not possible, an archer like Milva).

Years later, Nimue set off to Aretuza to start her training as a sorceress, and on her way to the magical school that trained Yennefer and many others, she came across Geralt. The witcher saved Nimue from a monster in Magpie Forest, and she safely made it to Aretuza after that. Some time later, one night, by a lake, Nimue saw a unicorn and Ciri hovering over the water and immediately recognized the Cintran princess. Ciri was trying to find her way back home, but after realizing she had interrupted Nimue and a guy having sex, she quickly disappeared.

Nimue learned that Ciri wasn’t able to control her time-traveling abilities, and waited for her to appear at the lake to help her.

Years later, Nimue dedicated most of her time to learning the truth about Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, to the point where she recruited a oneiromancer, Condwiramurs Tilly, for help. Nimue learned that Ciri wasn’t able to control her time-traveling abilities, so she and Tilly would sit out on the tower by the lake, waiting for Ciri to appear… and she did. This time, Nimue was able to send Ciri back to her time (1268) with the help of a tapestry and Hartmann’s looking glass, which opened a portal to Stygga Castle through which Ciri was finally able to return to her right time.

Time travel has been rumored to be used in Netflix’s The Witcher for a while now, because it’s an ability that can be found in the books. With Ihuarraquax’s help, Ciri traverses time and space but has no control over it, taking her to different worlds until she’s finally able to find her own thanks to Nimue. The Witcher season 4, then, could see Ciri exploring this ability and visiting other worlds.

Nimue’s Presence Hints At A Big Time Jump In The Witcher Season 4

Nimue is in the future.

The Witcher season 4 could be told by Stribog or another person.

Because a young Nimue used to hear the stories of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri from Stribog, this means that Nimue was in the future. The stories of the witcher, the sorceress, and the princess are told by other people in the Witcher books, most notably by Jaskier. Nimue’s appearance in The Witcher season 4 hints at this season taking a time jump, perhaps right at the beginning, with most (if not all) of the season being told by Stribog or another person.

books is Dandelion.

Nimue’s role in Ciri’s return to her time also means that The Witcher, whether in season 4 or a future season, will also make a major time jump to reunite with an older and wiser Nimue. While all this is exciting for Netflix’s The Witcher, it also risks repeating the mistake of the first season and having a confusing narrative with different time jumps.

How Nimue’s Introduction Can Help Explain The Witcher’s Geralt Recast

Nimue being in the future offers a smooth solution.

The Witcher season 4’s biggest challenge is Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of Geralt of Rivia after Henry Cavill’s exit. While the show could simply carry on with this new Geralt, there’s a lot of speculation about how The Witcher will explain its Geralt recast. Nimue’s introduction actually makes this a lot easier, precisely because she’s in the future and listening to Geralt’s story through someone else.

Geralt’s story being “filtered” makes way for a couple of changes, including physical ones. It’s to be seen if Nimue will truly appear in The Witcher season 4 or not, and if she does, if this season will be told by someone else.

The Witcher

Based on the novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and the video games, The Witcher follows the story of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. “Ciri” Cirilla is the Princess of Cintra, who has magical abilities and whose fate has been linked to Geralt’s. Yennefer of Vengerberg, a sorceress who trains to become a mage before deserting her duties and going solo, is also a main character in the Netflix series. The show’s storylines are intertwined but told throughout different timelines, all of which eventually catch up to Ciri’s, whose timeline of events is the most recent. Set on the Continent where men, monsters, and elves exist together, the characters all have separate journeys, though their destinies bring them into each others’ orbits.
