Though HBO is saying goodbye to Curb Your Enthusiasm in April 2024, the streaming service Max already has a worthy replacement for the comedy show that will soon premiere its third season. After 25 years on HBO, Curb Your Enthusiasm is officially ending with season 12 this year, bringing Larry David’s revolutionary comedy show to what is shaping up to be a climactic end. From a total of 10 installments in the final season, Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12 only has five episodes remaining before the curtain closes on HBO’s longest-running comedy series.

With other HBO comedies like Veep and Barry having also come to an end, finding a replacement series for Curb Your Enthusiasm on Max is no easy task. However, there is one great comedy series that debuted on Max in 2021 that can provide a fitting substitute, which already has two seasons under its belt. Following the release of Curb Your Enthusiasm’s series finale on April 7, 2024, the Max-streaming comedy show’s third season will premiere shortly after on May 2, 2024.

Hacks Is Max’s Perfect Comedy Show Replacement For Curb Your Enthusiasm After Season 12

The closest prestige comedy TV show to Curb Your Enthusiasm that’s still ongoing for Max is Hacks, which originally premiered on the streaming service in May 2021. Hacks follows the professional and personal dynamics of Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder), a comedy writer struggling in her career, and Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), a legendary comedian known for her stand-up shows in Las Vegas. The comedy show has maintained critical acclaim throughout its first two seasons, both of which boast “Certified Fresh” 100% scores from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, which is expected to continue with the upcoming Hacks season 3.

The casts of both
Hacks
and
Curb Your Enthusiasm
feature comedian Kaitlin Olson in recurring roles.

Both Curb Your Enthusiasm and Hacks are centered on comedians seeing a resurgence in their careers after the end of their former hit TV shows. For Larry David, the fictionalized version of himself tries getting back into stand-up or doing various other projects in Hollywood after the end of his sitcom Seinfeld. For Jean Smart’s Deborah Vance, Hacks sees her Las Vegas comedy show get a necessary boost long after the height of her stand-up career and popular sitcom’s ending. Larry David and Deborah Vance also share a general distaste for other people, making for some great comedic moments in both shows.

Hacks Already Has More Emmy Wins Than Curb Your Enthusiasm After Only 3 Years

While Curb has enjoyed 12 seasons on HBO, the hit Larry David series has surprisingly only won two Emmys across its 25-year run: Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series in 2003 and Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series in 2012. Meanwhile, across only two seasons, Hacks has already won six Emmys, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Though awards performance isn’t always the best indicator of a series’ overall quality, legacy, and excellence, Hacks’ success in this sector still helps to separate itself as the greatest new replacement for Curb Your Enthusiasm in Max’s comedy show catalog.
