Disney+’s release of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is teasing a special twist in connection to the concert movie’s “surprise” songs. Officially subtitled (Taylor’s Version) to play off of the superstar’s recent history of re-recording and re-releasing her own versions of past albums, The Eras Tour movie is coming to streaming a day earlier than planned. Aside from the record-breaking world tour, which is still in its international leg, the theatrical release brought in over $260 million at the box office. About four months after the theatrical release, it was announced that Disney won the streaming rights.

That said, it wouldn’t be a Taylor Swift announcement without a few surprises. The concert movie was filmed during Swift’s LA-based shows from August 2023, and though the tour had a setlist that covered all nine of Taylor Swift’s “Eras,” each show has featured two surprise songs or a mashup of multiple songs. As part of the Disney+ release announcement, it was confirmed that “Cardigan,” the lead single from 2020’s Folklore, would be featured alongside four other surprise songs. While it’s possible to narrow down the options, there could be an unexpected twist.

The Eras Tour Movie (Taylor’s Version) Surprise Songs Have Been Revealed…Unless There’s A Twist

To provide an update on Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour‘s release, Disney+ released a new (Taylor’s Version) trailer. While “…Ready For It?” played over a montage of performances, the end of the trailer revealed that “Maroon” from Swift’s tenth studio album, Midnights, would be another “surprise” song. That means Disney+ has revealed two of the two Eras Tour movie bonus songs, but based on what Swift used as surprise songs during the LA shows, it’s possible to figure out the other three bonus songs (barring any major surprises).

Album

“Cardigan”

Folklore

“Maroon”

Midnights

“I Can See You”

Speak Now

“Death By A Thousand Cuts”

Lover

“You Are In Love”

The key to bonus song speculation is the fact that they are acoustic performances that happened during the filming of The Eras Tour songs, which narrows it down to “I Can See You,” “Death By A Thousand Cuts,” and “You Are In Love.” Since filming occurred August 5-7th, the theatrical version of The Eras Tour movie was able to include bonus songs such as “You’re On Your Own, Kid” and “Our Song.” Unless there was secret filming during the other LA shows, those hoping to see songs like “Dress,” “Exile,” and “King Of My Heart” won’t be so lucky.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is coming to Disney+, and the experience of watching the concert movie on streaming will be different than in theaters.

Why It’s Unlikely (But Not Impossible) There Are Truly Surprising Songs On The Eras Tour Movie (Taylor’s Version)

It’s not out of the realm of possibility to think there is a massive reveal coming during Disney+’s
The Eras Tour…

Granted, the fact that Disney and Swift are promoting The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) by highlighting surprises almost seems like they have some tricks up their sleeves. Swift has a long history of using secret messages and hidden details in social media posts to tease future announcements. It’s not out of the realm of possibility to think there is a massive reveal coming during Disney+’s The Eras Tour, whether that means bonus songs that may have been filmed elsewhere or something even bigger.

Logistically, it would have been challenging to film other bonus acoustic songs, but if Swift truly wanted a new batch of “surprise” songs that couldn’t be speculated on for (Taylor’s Version), this could be the way to go. Perhaps she plans to feature songs from Reputation, considering that’s set to be her next re-released album. Even more shocking would be something tied to The Tortured Poets Department, Swift’s album set to release in April. Either way, Disney+’s Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie will be a worthwhile viewing experience made extra special by the additional songs.
