The Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection will bring both of Pandemic Studios’ 2000s-era Star Wars: Battlefront games to modern devices on March 14, 2024, to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary. While the restoration by Aspyr will see maps and characters that will be debuting on some platforms for the first time, it is missing a popular feature in most modern multiplayer games.

As reported by Game Rant, a Reddit user, ItsMaverick1357, got a response from Aspyr that confirmed cross-platform multiplayer will not be included in the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection. This is sure to come as a disappointment to those who want to play the games with those on other platforms, especially with the extremely popular multiplayer modes such as Conquest, Capture the Flag, Hunt, and Assault, all returning with up to 64 players able to join the battle online.

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection Will Have Cross-Generation Multiplayer

PS4 And PS5 Players Can Play Together, As Can Those On Xbox Series And Xbox One

Despite the lack of cross-platform multiplayer, the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection‘s original announcement and Aspyr’s email to ItsMaverick1357 confirmed that cross-generation multiplayer is supported on the PlayStation and Xbox releases of the games. The new bundle is being released on both the current-gen PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X consoles, and the previous PlayStation 4 and Xbox One generation, but only PS5 and PS4 players will be able to play together, with Xbox Series S/X and Xbox One also limited to fellow Xbox users.

Major titles such as Call of Duty and Fortnite have pushed crossplay into the limelight, and now most major AAA multiplayer games release with at least partial cross-platform support. Although the original games were also mostly locked to letting players play with others on their chosen platform via Xbox Live or PlayStation 2’s Net Play due to the functionality of the time, the omission of cross-platform multiplayer in Aspyr’s restoration is surprising considering how popular the classic Star Wars: Battlefront games were, how it was boasting the return of large scale battles, and how common cross-platform has become in gaming in recent years.

Aspyr’s response to ItsMaverick1357 did state that player feedback is being reviewed regularly to make the company’s games better. Hopefully, if the response to Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection‘s release is good, and more players request cross-platform multiplayer over time, the studio might implement this feature at a later date.
